Protein is bad.

it's good to leave the office early
right after lunch
it always feels good to be out of the office during office hours
but it's not that fun when you all you are thinking about is whether you're going to get your blood sucked out

made my way to ang mo kio with Jaz
looking for this little clinic at the corner by raffles medical
our pre-employment check-up
although i have been working there for about a year already
since august 2005
that's a long time to be working at a single place
considering it's my very first proper job
wow... i'm proud of myself!

jaz and i kept talking about injections and blood and how we can't seem to see our veins on the inside of our elbows
talking about bad past experience with injections ain't helping the situation
yes we are scared of needles and blood if you haven't already figured that out

it was written in our form that it was x-ray and urine tests only
there was this blood test thing but it was only for those 25 years and above
but we still feared
it was after all a FULL medical check-up
there has to be injections and some sort of blood test involved somewhere

as we were waiting,
some came out with a plaster on the insides of their elbows
some didn't
i kept telling jaz that those with must be 25 years and above

they checked our eyesights
made us pee on this stick with various indicators
then it's time to see the doctor
lucky for me, jaz went first.

ha! she came out with no plaster. WEE!!!
okay so when it's my turn to see the doctor
i just headed into the room happily
knowing that he's not gonna suck my blood
and there will be no pain involved
it's goona be just fine

but No... it was not fine.
the doctor told me i had protein in my urine
and that i had to take my test again
huh? what the hell is that suppose to mean?
isn't protein supposed to be good?
apparently not when it's found in your pee

i asked the doctor what it means
but he refused to tell me
he just told me to get another test done
and if the problem persists then he'll explain to me

he probably didn't want to tell me for fear that i'll get paranoid
well the doctor doesn't know that i'm a curious gal
i started thinking about all sorts of possible problems
and getting myself paranoid nevertheless

after my x-ray at the polyclinic next door
i went back to the clinic and took another pee test
i had to sit there
drink two cups of water which the nurse patiently filled up for me
and just waited for the pee to come
where's the pee when you need it?

okay i'm ready so gimme the stick now
this time the nurse gave me a container instead
What?! i have to fill that up?
alrite i can do this... shhhhh....

the nurses talked about my pee
discussed some Ph level thingy
"okay you're fine. you can go now."
the nurse told me
That...
is the miracle of plain water.

okay... i'll be drinking more plain water from now on.
people... drink more water... it's good for you.

anyway, for your information. i went home to check the internet and it states that protein in pee is usually caused by kidney problems. the protein is supposed to be absorbed into your body and since the molecules are bigger, they aren't supposed to pass through your kidneys and even if they do, they will be absorbed back into the body. it is just not supposed to leave your body... in your pee. if it does, then your body is not taking in the proteins properly. but how does drinking plain water help? wouldn't it just help to wash away everything? how does the water help keep the protein in your body? or does it just dilutes the protein in the pee so that it can't be detected? but that isn't good 'cause it protein leaves your body but you can't detect and find out what's wrong right? i don't get it.
