a new beginning...

[anticlockwise from top left: Jonathan Yong, Garvin, Serene, Andy, Sam & Ian]

The last few moments of 2006 and the first moments of 2007.

Being in the company of the people I have known for about two-thirds of my life.

Since we were little tots in school till what we are today... nothing much has changed our friendship. They say kids don't hold grudges (not for long at least) and I think that's true. Yes we remember we have bullied or been bullied by one another in school, got one another into trouble (even caning from the teacher), we have 'friend' and 'don't friend' one another a couple of times over and over again, but here we are 15 years down the road laughing at all those times together. It's things like this that makes life a whole lot more meaningful.

Childhood friends are like a family.

The night of 31st December 2006 started out as just the four of us. We had dinner at Outback Steakhouse at Millenia Walk. I really don't know how we ended up there. It's aussie food... things i'll be getting for the next three years or so. But the food was good so no complains.

After we were done with dinner, my childhood sweetheart came to join us.

Then we headed to have dessert at Ben & Jerry's where we met Sam. Now the group has grown a little bigger. The six of us shared 2 pints of ice-cream - 4 flavours in total. There was Cherry Garcia and Dublin Mudslide and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Chocolate Fudge Brownie. Yummy yummy! Those 2 above are ice-cream monsters just like me. Thank god for them otherwise we probably wouldn't have ice-cream by the pints or ice-cream at all for that matter. The rest of them just had a few spoonfuls and that's bout it. 2 pints ain't a lot what actually... for 6 of us. [considering priya and i finished 2 pints all by ourselves.]

After filling ourselves up with yummy ice-cream, we went out to look for a spot to watch the fireworks. We wanted to sit on the steps at Marina Square but there too was packed with people. What made matter worse was it started to drizzle and everyone started seeking shelter. The tunnel leading to Esplanade was like a can of sardines. There was no way anyone could get anywhere and they had to close the extrance to esplanade and i've got no idea why when obviously everyone was heading that way. We ended up walking to the monument park and found ourselves a comfortably spacious spot on the bridge leading to Fullerton. I think the rain kinda chased some people away while we were actually going out into the rain. So yay we got a spot! =) and lots of time. =( We missed the 10pm fireworks coz we were still stuck somewhere but we manage to catch the 11pm one which was from among the skyscrapers. That lasted for a few seconds and that was all. Everyone was waiting for more but more never came. Erm.

So we ended up taking lots of lame pictures like the ones above. The boys were looking at girls go by and the girls were looking at[and taking pictures of] the boys look at the girls go by. It's funny. Then Jonathan Yong came up with some jokes to make us laugh.

You're supposed to guess what the person in each picture is saying.

1st picture: "Uncle, i'm have not board the bus yet."

2nd picture: "Auntie, your umbrella."

3rd picture: "Mummy, you're tying my hair too tight."

haha... got it?

As we usher in 2007...

There was no countdown or anything... the fireworks just came.
We were all looking at our watches, some have striked midnight and some have not. Then we looked at one another and "Is it 2007 yet?"

What better way to celebrate than to have a lollipop with dear childhood friends.
Booze? nah... that's for adults.
We're kids... again.
Aww... look at how sporting the big boys are. Putting the lolly into their mouths with not a single whine. Just do it.
Ian seems to be getting a sugar-high with that lolly.

After squeezing through the crowd, we made our way to the UOB building side of the Singapore River and sat there for a little while to wait till the crowd cleared a little brfore we take our leave. While we were all squeezed on a little bench by the river, we took more pics. As usual, the boys were watching the girls go by and the girls watching the boys watch the girls go by. =)

We went home satisfied and very happy that we made it out to meet one another. Despite our various schedules and the different paths we've taken since primary school, we still manage to keep-in-touch and we're still the same old us when we're together. I'm truly honoured to have such wonderful friends who are still willing to keep one another in our hearts.

I can't say this enough and here it is again "I LOVE MY CHILDHOOD FRIENDS!"

and here's the picture on the box of chocs me and serene got for my childhood sweetheart.

Thank you dearies for spending the last day of 2006 and the first day of 2007 with me. This means a whole lot to me. It's the most wonderful start to a new year. To those who missed it due to other commitments, I hope you can join us at the end of this year and I hope we'll be doing this again.

Looking forward to spending time with all of you again. See ya!

To all my readers, Happy New Year!

Lots of love,
Tammy
