touch of Red and White

on the Saturday just passed, we brought home to the ballroom of one of the best hotels in Hobart and celebrated in style. dressed in the our traditional costumes, we set our culture on parade at Singapore Night 2007. the event was awesome, the dinner was awesomer and the desserts were awesomest. the night started off with the singing of our National Anthem and that made us go all soft inside but yet standing proud. our home was displayed to all in the form of performances and video clips of our national day songs for this year. the dinner included world class Hokkien Mee with Sambal included, Tandoori Chicken and Ayam Masak Merah, complete with achar, papadum and asian condiments. dinner was to die for and it isn't because i'm deprived of Singaporean food because thanks to my Big Brother Chef, i am not. i have home-cooked nasi lemak, chicken rice, mee soto, mee siam and all that for dinner everyday. but no asian food in Tassy, home-cooked or not, can beat the cuisine served that night. Thanks to the Singaporean chef at Wrest Point. it's a night not to be forgotten.
the 9th of August is not just the birthday of my island home but also the birthday of my late grandmother.
it's a tradition for the family to get together on this day to watch the parade together and also for an excuse to stuff ourselves silly. i've missed the gatherings before but only because i was involved in the parade. i never like being left out of family gatherings. this year, i can't make it either but i was still there... in a way. i met my parents, brother, aunts, uncles, cousins and dogs all over msn. with the aid of the webcam and the internet, i managed to be home. my speakers were blasting with the voices and laughter of all back home with the narration and songs of the National Day Parade in the background. it made me a little homesick but it was all worth it.
i fulfilled my patriotic duties by donning my red-n-white adidas sweater, catching the NDP live online (the last part of it at least) and singing along to the national day songs in the privacy of my room. So there you go... my National Day in Tassy.
and where is home?
SINGAPORE LAH!
